The Nigerian Army troops have prevented a possible terrorist attack by retrieving a command-wire improvised explosive device (IED) concealed along a road in Kanguri village, located in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. This information was shared in a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Friday night.
As per the post, the explosive device was found around 3:00 p.m. on Friday by soldiers from the 149 Battalion while they were escorting a team from the Mine Risk Group (MRG) based in Maiduguri.
“The team was en route to recover two trucks that had been damaged in a previous Boko Haram IED explosion on July 4 when the hidden explosive was discovered beneath the road in Kanguri village,” Makama highlighted.
The report indicated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the 149 Battalion successfully retrieved the command-wire IED without encountering any issues.
There were no reported injuries, and military equipment remained unaffected during the mission. The escort and vehicle recovery operation was still in progress at the time of the announcement.
Zagazola mentioned that this recent find underscores the ongoing threat from roadside explosives set by terrorist organizations in certain areas of the North East.
He also noted that troops continue to conduct clearance operations and route security patrols designed to safeguard both military personnel and civilians traveling on major roads in the region.
