The Department of State Services (DSS) has attributed shocking claims to its recent raid in Anambra and Imo states, reporting that they discovered members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its paramilitary wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), consuming human flesh . According to DSS, roasted human remains were found at one of their hideouts, prompting grave accusations that IPOB engages in cannibalistic activities.
In swift response, IPOB has rejected these claims as blatant fabrications intended to tarnish its image. In a statement issued by its spokesman Emma Powerful, the group described the allegations as a smear campaign, asserting that they do not partake in “barbarities and cannibalism.” IPOB emphasized that its members are focused solely on defending the Southeast against security threats—not engaging in atrocities like rape, kidnapping, or eating human flesh.
IPOB countered that this narrative is part of a broader attempt by authorities to demonize pro-Biafra activists by linking them to heinous crimes without credible evidence.
