The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a fresh warning of industrial action due to the Federal Government’s failure to pay four months’ worth of withheld salaries. The union, which had earlier suspended its strike following government assurances, expressed frustration over the lack of progress on the payment issue.
SSANU’s National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, stated that the affected members are becoming increasingly agitated, especially as academic staff have already received their withheld pay. He noted that the union had exercised patience for months, expecting a fair resolution, but no concrete action has been taken.
Ibrahim emphasized that the government risks industrial unrest if the situation remains unresolved. He added that SSANU would not hesitate to mobilize its members for a nationwide protest or strike, as the union can no longer tolerate being sidelined in matters of welfare and justice.
