The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Sallah Durbar celebrations throughout the state ahead of the upcoming 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festivities.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced this prohibition while speaking to reporters at the Bompai Police Headquarters, citing security concerns and the need to avert possible unrest.
CP Bakori noted that intelligence reports indicated that certain groups were planning to disrupt the Durbar celebrations and incite instability. After discussions with the Kano State Government and other essential stakeholders, the police command concluded that banning the event was necessary.
“In the interest of ensuring a safe and secure celebration, and to uphold peace and public order, the command, in partnership with other security agencies, has evaluated the growing tensions and uncertainties related to the Durbar activities,” Bakori explained.
“Based on credible intelligence regarding plans to exploit the Durbar for unrest, a prohibition has been issued for all Durbar activities throughout the state during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations.”
The police commissioner urged worshippers to perform their Eid prayers only at approved praying locations and to follow security protocols, which include avoiding the carrying of unnecessary items that could raise suspicion.
“No horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, or reckless driving will be permitted. Parents and guardians should warn their children against participating in any disruptive behavior.
The public is also advised to refrain from actions that could disrupt the peace or lead to a breakdown of law and order.
CP Bakori promised that sufficient security personnel would be deployed to guarantee a peaceful Sallah celebration.
“As we commemorate this joyful occasion, let us prioritize peace above everything, set aside our differences, and come together as law-abiding citizens for the advancement of our state and nation,” Bakori implored.
