Ondo State secured the overall third position in the recently concluded Bola Ahmed Tinubu South West Games (BATSWAG) held in Lagos.
Lagos and Ogun States took the top two spots, while Ondo finished in third place.
Oyo, Ekiti, and Osun States were ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth in the South West Games.
This competition was organized as a celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s 73rd birthday.
The six South West states competed in various sports, including football, boxing, basketball, athletics, archery, and volleyball, with Lagos emerging as the overall champion.
The General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite, praised the state’s athletes and their coaches for their remarkable performance during the event.
He stated, “Our athletes excelled both on and off the field.
“We are preparing to head to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to take part in the Niger Delta Sports Festival, which will occur from April 1 to 9, 2025.
“The Niger Delta Sports Festival will serve as a basis for the National Sports Festival, which is set to occur in Ogun State in May.
“I am confident that we will perform exceptionally well at the National Sports Festival,” he expressed.
