The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has committed to continuing efforts toward a safer Nigeria while celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with injured soldiers at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
During a special Sallah Luncheon on Sunday, Oluyede, represented by the Commander Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim, commended the wounded soldiers for their sacrifices and reassured them that their contributions were not overlooked.
He elaborated that numerous soldiers suffered injuries while engaged in combat in the northeast and northwest, notably during operations such as Hadin Kai and Fansanyamma.
If highlighting recent achievements, Oluyede mentioned that the military had enhanced security along the Kano-Abuja corridor and would persist in working until the country is completely safe.
“We are achieving notable progress in our operations and will not stop until our nation is entirely secure,” he stated.
While recognizing existing challenges, Oluyede conveyed confidence that the military’s resolve and vigilance were assisting them in making advancements.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, pointed out that security in the area remained inconsistent but had seen improvements, particularly along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari and Abuja-Kaduna road and rail routes.
He indicated that numerous individuals who had been kidnapped had been rescued unharmed, and many bandits had surrendered due to military actions.
“These modest accomplishments have come about through the commitment and sacrifices of our brave troops,” he remarked.
Saraso stressed the necessity of keeping troops motivated to ensure they can continue safeguarding the nation.
The Acting Chief Medical Director, Brig.-Gen. Godwin Ogoh expressed gratitude to the Army Chief for emphasizing the welfare of injured soldiers.
He noted that the luncheon transcended a mere leadership gesture; it conveyed solidarity, care, and profound respect for those who have served our country.
He added that the event had uplifted the spirits of the wounded soldiers, reminding them that their bravery and sacrifices were appreciated.
“To our courageous soldiers who carry the marks of battle with honor, your resilience is a source of motivation for us all,” Ogoh stated.
