Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has sanctioned the selection of a new chairman and members for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
As per the announcement, Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey will serve as the new RSIEC Chairman alongside six members and four professors.
This appointment was made public in a Government Special Announcement released on Wednesday by Prof. Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government.
The statement, which was shared with journalists, indicated that the new appointments will commence on Monday, April 7, 2025.
It stated, “The following individuals have been designated as the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Electoral Commission:
“Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey, Chairman Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira, Member Prof. Author Nwafor Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha, Member Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor, Member Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce, Member Professor Chidi Halliday, Member.
“All appointments are effective starting Monday, April 7, 2025.”
It is worth noting that just last week, Ibas suspended the leadership of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies within the state, including the RSIEC, which was formerly chaired by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.).
