Buba Galadima, a long-time critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a leader within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has commended President Bola Tinubu for aiding his daughter in securing a federal job promptly after her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) completion.
Galadima, who is closely associated with NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and is a significant figure in the opposition Kwankwasiyya movement, shared this story during a recent program on AIT.
He detailed how his daughter faced difficulties in finding a job after finishing her NYSC.
As a result of her frustrations, his children found Tinubu’s contact number on his phone and chose to reach out to the President directly.
“We are friends, and our friendship will persist. If I see something I appreciate about him, I can ask for it, and it will be granted,” he stated.
He recalled that his daughter, who is a medical doctor, placed a call to Tinubu.
The President answered, mistakenly thinking it was Galadima calling. Upon realizing it was Galadima’s children on the line, Tinubu reportedly recognized them and promised to help.
Galadima further explained that one of his daughters, who had just completed her NYSC, mentioned to Tinubu her need for a position at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Tinubu promptly called Gbenga Komolafe, the NUPRC boss, and instructed him to provide her with a job.
He elaborated: “In fact, I must admit, my daughter completed her NYSC; that one who lost her passport was hoping to go to Mecca to express her gratitude to God.
“She searched for a job, but they could not offer her one. So one of my daughters, her older sister, a medical doctor, scrolled through my contacts and found the President’s number, and they called him. He answered the phone, thinking it was me. Then they introduced themselves as my children, explaining that the situation in the country is tough—‘Our father cannot secure jobs for us; our father cannot accomplish this for us, and he mentioned that you are his friend.’
“He acknowledged, ‘Yes, of course, I’m his friend.’ The younger sibling explained that she had just finished her NYSC and that she was unable to get a job at the NUPRC; he (Tinubu) then called Komolafe, instructing him to hire my friend’s daughter. That is why she (my daughter) wanted to travel to Mecca to thank God and express her gratitude to Mr. President.”
The NNPP leader did not hold back. In what seemed to be a subtle criticism of former President Muhammadu Buhari, under whom he served for more than a decade, Galadima noted that Buhari provided no support to his daughter, even though she worked in his administration for four years.
“And I, who worked for Buhari for 13 years, my daughter served him for four years, he ordered that she should not receive any salary,” Galadima expressed. “Let them present any documentation that shows she was ever paid. She worked for Buhari for four years without receiving a salary.”
