Gbajabiamila emphasized that education is not merely a privilege but a fundamental right that empowers individuals and strengthens communities.
The COS, while delivering maiden annual lecture of Osun State University on Tuesday, titled “Interrogating Funding of Education: Global versus Nigerian Perspectives” disclosed that Federal Government operate 64 while state governments operate 63, noting that they are insufficient for growing population of Nigeria.
He stressed that any nation aspiring for growth must make education a top priority, as it shapes responsible citizens and drives societal progress. Highlighting the persistent challenges in funding, he called for curriculum reforms, better infrastructure, and global strategies—such as attracting international students—to improve Nigeria’s tertiary education system. He also urged collaboration with the private sector to boost innovation and economic growth, noting that more universities are needed to meet the demands of Nigeria’s expanding population.
