Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that several fugitives on INTERPOL’s Red Notice list were recently arrested at Nigerian airports as they attempted to enter the country. Speaking at a maritime border security workshop in Lagos, he credited the arrests to enhanced surveillance, new intelligence-gathering tools, and the implementation of the Advanced Passenger Information (API) system. This system enables authorities to screen passengers before they arrive.
Tunji-Ojo noted that suspects wanted by countries like Italy and Ireland were intercepted within two days—an outcome made possible by recent upgrades under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He emphasized that these developments align with global security standards.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Immigration Service boss Kemi Nandap highlighted ongoing threats at maritime borders, including piracy and terrorism, and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
