Residents of Moremi Estate in Ile-Ife, Osun State, were left in shock following a violent robbery at D&D Hostel early Monday morning. The incident, which occurred between 12:45 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., involved a Part 4 student from the Department of Material Science at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), who sustained a serious machete injury to the head.
This marks the third robbery in the area recently, but witnesses described this latest attack as the most severe. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
The robbery has heightened fears among students and residents, prompting swift intervention from student leaders and security personnel. Comrade Olaore David, who oversees Security and Project Delivery in the South-West region for the National Association of University Students (NAUS), visited the scene along with OAU’s Chief Security Officer, AbdulRoheem Arogundade, and police patrol teams from Moore and Modakeke.
The team engaged with the injured student and other hostel residents to gather information and provide reassurance. Comrade Olaore, popularly known as Kolokolo, pledged stronger security measures and announced the start of joint surveillance with law enforcement to track criminal activity and identify vulnerable access points.
He also mentioned plans to introduce a dedicated emergency contact line to help students quickly report suspicious behavior or emergencies.
