Members of the Health Sector Unions associated with Organized Labor in Ondo State (NLC and TUC) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) have been instructed to go on an indefinite strike starting on Monday, July 27, 2026.
In accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), this is to push for the resolution of all issues pertaining to the capture of staff norminal roll.

The unions issued a seven-day deadline for resolving the situation, which expired on Monday, according to a copy of a letter previously sent to the hospital’s chief medical director that our reporter was able to get.
The earlier letter read and stated the demands from the Hospital management, thus;
- Immediately ensure the IPPIS enrolment of every worker whose name appears on the duly authenticated Nominal Roll attached to the Memorandum of Understanding without discrimination or exclusion.
- Immediately discontinue any practice that requires or pressures workers to renounce or disclaim membership of any lawful trade union.
- Cease every act capable of victimising, intimidating, or discriminating against Labour Leaders and Trade Union members.
- Demonstrate full compliance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Dear Comrades,
NOTICE OF INDUSTRIAL ACTION ISSUED BY ORGANIZED LABOUR, ONDO STATE
Following the expiration of the seven (7) days ultimatum without any resolution, the Organized Labour in Ondo State hereby directs all affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in FUTATH to commence an indefinite industrial action.
Accordingly, all affiliates are to withdraw their services with effect from 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 26th July, 2026, until further notice.
Furthermore, all affiliate unions are directed to mobilize their members for a peaceful picketing of FUTATH on Monday, 27th July, 2026, in support of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the protection of the rights of the affected workers.
This directive follows the failure of the appropriate authorities to address the legitimate demands of Organized Labour.
All affiliates are enjoined to ensure total compliance with this directive.

…..FG Team’s Meeting with Labour Leaders to be Rescheduled as CMD seeks Resolution
In order to resolve the ongoing labor dispute at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), a group of senior Federal Ministry of Health officials, led by Mr. Igbinosun Festus, Deputy Director, Residence Labour Desk Officer, Federal Ministry of Health, traveled to Ondo State last Friday.Health
The team is in the FUTATH meeting room in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, to interact with labor leaders and workers.
However, it was revealed that the labor union leadership had notified the team via a letter dated July 23, 2026, signed by Clement Fatuase, the Ondo State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), requesting a rescheduling of the meeting due to an inevitable engagement.
The letter, which was sent to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health via the team leader’s office, asked that the meeting be rescheduled to a time that would allow him to attend and participate in the intervention effort to resolve the labor conflicts.
“We have continuously engaged the Union leadership through meetings and dialogue to explain the rationale behind the ongoing reforms,” the CMD stated. Despite these efforts, the hospital has had many labor strikes and clinical service interruptions prior to the exhaustion of established dispute resolution procedures.It is crucial to remember that the Futa Teaching Hospital is still in its early stages as a Federal institution. These measures have negatively impacted patient care, interfered with clinical activities, and hindered the hospital’s development.
