The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) online pre-registration portal will close on Monday, July 27, 2026, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Nigerians who successfully completed their online applications are advised to visit specific registration centers to complete the process and have their biometrics taken.
In order to prepare for the next stage of voter registration and the creation of an updated national voter register in advance of upcoming elections, the Commission clarified that the temporary closure is necessary. INEC emphasized that biometric information, such as fingerprints and photos, must be obtained in an official registration center before an application may be considered a registered voter based only on online pre-registration.
Nigerians who have not finished their biometric enrollment by the deadline will have to wait till the next registration window is announced, according to the electoral commission.
Additionally, because proxy registration is prohibited by the Electoral Act, the Commission reminded applicants to appear in person.Additionally, INEC warned citizens to exclusively depend on updates released through its official communication channels and to ignore false information about the registration process.
The Commission reaffirmed that the CVR exercise is intended to serve first-time voters, individuals requesting registration transfers, replacing missing or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correcting personal data.
In addition to urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of upcoming voter registration opportunities to actively participate in the nation’s democratic process, the electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to holding credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
