In a heartbreaking incident, Hon. Obukoadata Aghoghofia, the councillor representing Evwreni Ward 8 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, collapsed and died while participating in a community football match. His sudden passing has plunged the local community and political circles into mourning.
This marks the third death of a serving councillor in Delta State within nine months, with two from Ughelli North and one from Isoko South. The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, expressed deep sorrow over Aghoghofia’s unexpected demise, highlighting their recent meeting just hours before the incident.
Egbo praised Aghoghofia as a dedicated legislator whose commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the 8th Assembly. He emphasized that Aghoghofia’s sudden departure is a significant loss to both the council and the community.
The recent spate of councillor deaths has raised concerns across Delta State, prompting discussions about the health and well-being of public officials.
