The Federal Government has debunked widespread rumours suggesting the sack of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. The Presidency clarified that the reports making rounds are entirely false and a creation of mischief makers bent on stirring unnecessary tension within the government.
Speaking on the issue, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the SGF remains a trusted and key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He stressed that there has been no directive or indication from the President regarding any plan to remove Akume from office.
Onanuga also warned the public to be cautious of misleading narratives and false information being circulated by individuals with ulterior motives. He called on media outlets to verify their sources before publishing such claims, noting that fabricating news for political intrigue undermines national stability. The Presidency reaffirmed its confidence in Akume’s capabilities and maintained that he continues to discharge his duties effectively.
