Ballot Snatching Will Lead to By-Election, LASIEC Warns Ahead of Lagos LG Poll

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has declared that any act of ballot box snatching during the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2025, will result in the cancellation of results in the affected areas and the immediate conduct of a by-election. This announcement was made by LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), during a press briefing in Lagos.

Justice Phillips emphasized that the commission is committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process. She stated clearly that where violence or ballot disruption occurs, the results will be nullified and fresh elections will be held in those areas to ensure fairness and credibility.

LASIEC reiterated its readiness to conduct credible elections across the 57 local government and local council development areas in the state. The commission urged all political parties, candidates, and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions that could compromise the electoral process.

This strong stance by LASIEC comes as part of wider efforts to deter electoral malpractice and promote democratic values in Lagos State’s local governance system.
