Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila have arrived in London to coordinate the repatriation of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s remains. Their visit follows a direct order from President Bola Tinubu, who has also directed that all flags be flown at half-mast nationwide in honor of the deceased leader.The high-powered delegation touched down in London on Monday morning and was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
The Nigerian officials in the UK are working closely with British authorities to ensure a smooth and dignified return of the former president’s body to Nigeria.President Buhari passed away on Sunday evening at a hospital in London after a prolonged illness. His death has triggered a wave of national mourning and condolences from leaders across the globe.
Buhari, who ruled Nigeria as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, is set to be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.Arrangements for a state burial are currently underway, with preparations being handled both in London and Nigeria. The federal government is expected to release an official burial schedule shortly, as dignitaries prepare to pay their final respects.
