President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on July 13, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness . In a heartfelt phone call to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the former first lady, Tinubu conveyed his deepest sympathies and mourning for the national loss .As part of the immediate national response, Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria . Additionally, the President ordered that the Nigerian flag be flown at half-mast across all national facilities for a period of mourning.
Federal authorities have scheduled a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and state funeral arrangements are underway, with full state honours to be accorded to the late leader .Further statements from the Information Ministry praised Buhari’s contributions to national unity, infrastructure, and social investment, while urging citizens to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and service that defined his public life.
At present, Vice President Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila are in London as part of the official delegation sent on Tinubu’s directive. National ceremony and burial have now been officially scheduled for Tuesday.
