The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected child traffickers and rescued six children believed to be victims of trafficking. Acting on credible intelligence, the police intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Onitsha to Warri, leading to the arrest of a woman named Florence James and the recovery of the six minors.
Following her arrest, Florence reportedly confessed to being part of a child trafficking syndicate and led officers to her accomplices, leading to the subsequent arrest of two other suspects: Veronica Ode and Julius Nwokolo. The suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed the operation and reiterated the command’s dedication to tackling crimes against vulnerable persons, especially children. He commended the operatives involved in the operation and assured the public that the rescued children are in safe hands and receiving proper care.
The police have vowed to continue their crackdown on human trafficking and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may endanger the lives and safety of children.
