The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State has accused Governor Usman Ododo of operating what it described as a “Government of Okene, by Okene, for Okene.” Speaking on Arise TV, the party’s state publicity secretary, Isaiah Ijele, alleged that the administration has concentrated appointments and projects in Okene, the governor’s hometown, to the detriment of other parts of the state.
Ijele lamented the state of healthcare in rural communities, claiming that many hospitals have completely collapsed, with some lacking even a single doctor. He stressed that he could provide live footage within hours to back up his assertions, highlighting what he described as neglect of critical infrastructure.
The SDP spokesman listed several key government positions allegedly occupied by Okene indigenes, including the Chief of Staff, Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Lands, and the Chairman of the Internal Revenue Service. He argued that this imbalance amounts to nepotism and undermines equitable governance across the state.
Ijele further faulted Governor Ododo for not presenting a pre-election manifesto, contrasting this with the SDP’s detailed and printed campaign blueprint before the November 2023 governorship election. He maintained that the absence of a clear plan, coupled with alleged favoritism, reflects poor leadership and a disregard for inclusive development in Kogi State.
