The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against engaging in double or multiple voter registrations, stressing that offenders will face legal consequences.The commission announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will hold from Monday, September 29 to Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The registration will be conducted across all 62 wards in the FCT, the six Area Council offices, as well as INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, making a total of 69 registration centres.INEC further explained that online pre-registration will be suspended from September 15, 2025.
Applicants who have already started the process online will be required to complete it physically at designated centres.According to the commission, the October 8 deadline is in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates that voter registration must end at least 90 days before any election. The FCT Area Council elections are scheduled to take place on February 21, 2026.INEC added that the registration exercise will resume after the February elections and continue until August 2026, after which there will be a nationwide suspension of CVR in preparation for the 2027 General Election.
The electoral body urged all eligible residents to take advantage of the registration window to obtain their voter cards. It also reminded citizens that while transfers of registration are allowed, double registration remains a serious offence that will not go unpunished.
