The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on Nigerians to hold their state governors and local government chairmen accountable for the growing economic hardship in the country.
Yilwatda made the appeal in Abuja during the public presentation of a book titled “Vicious Red Circle,” authored by Alex Oriaku. He emphasized that governors and local government leaders now receive significantly higher allocations than before and should be questioned about how these funds are being utilized.
According to him, total monthly allocations have risen from about ₦400 billion to over ₦2.2 trillion, giving subnational governments ample resources to improve citizens’ welfare and infrastructure. He urged Nigerians to demand transparency and tangible results from their local leaders rather than focusing solely on the federal government.
Yilwatda also reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to tackling economic challenges and promoting good governance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He maintained that with proper accountability at all levels, Nigeria can overcome its current socio-economic difficulties.
The event also highlighted the menace of human trafficking, with the APC chairman and other speakers calling for stronger collective efforts to combat the crime and protect vulnerable citizens.
