Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s firm commitment to religious freedom, emphasizing the country’s foundation in democratic values and constitutional protection for faith.
He stated that since his administration began in 2023, there has been ongoing engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders across the nation to promote understanding and tackle security challenges affecting diverse faith communities.
Tinubu dismissed perceptions that Nigeria is intolerant of religious diversity, calling such portrayals inaccurate and overlooking the government’s consistent efforts to safeguard the rights of believers.
Highlighting that religious tolerance and freedom are central to Nigeria’s identity, he affirmed that his government opposes all forms of persecution and remains dedicated to protecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of faith.
In addition, he reiterated that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees the rights of every citizen to worship freely, and his administration will continue collaborating with international partners—including the United States government—to strengthen protections for faith-based communities.
