Citing a string of violent incidents from just one week — including attacks in Plateau State, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, the ambush and death of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno, a church assault in Kwara, and the kidnapping of a Catholic priest in Kaduna — Amaechi said these tragedies underline the government’s inability to fulfill its most basic responsibility: safeguarding lives.
He is urging a complete overhaul of the national security strategy. In his view, this means stronger military intelligence, more tactical operations, and a relentless commitment to protecting Nigerians. “The government needs to sharpen its response … probe wrong decisions, strategise and make tough calls,” he insisted.
Speaking directly to President Tinubu, Amaechi warned that mere statements of condemnation will no longer do: “Your primary assignment is the security of lives and property. Enough of looking the other way or issuing watery statements of condemnation.”
To drive his point home, Amaechi offered his help: pointing to his record in Rivers State, he said, “We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help.”
