An Enugu Air aircraft bound from Lagos to Enugu encountered serious trouble Thursday evening when its nose landing gear malfunctioned during touchdown at Akanu Ibiam International Airport. According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the incident occurred around 19:10 hrs as the plane attempted to land on Runway 08.
The plane, identified by registration 5N-BZN, reportedly came to a stop immediately after landing, becoming immobile on the runway. Emergency response teams — including fire tenders, medical personnel, and rescue units — were quickly deployed by FAAN.
Thanks to the swift action, all passengers and crew disembarked safely. They were evacuated using apron buses and transported to the terminal without any reported injuries. FAAN also confirmed that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) remained on scene to secure the aircraft and surrounding area.
In a statement, FAAN emphasised that passenger and crew safety is its top priority, and assured the public that further updates would be provided once more information is verified.
The drama comes just a few months after Enugu Air’s launch, highlighting the importance of robust safety protocols in the nascent state-owned airline’s operations.
