A parent whose three children were among those abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State has died of a heart attack, as anguish over the recent mass kidnapping deepens.
The deceased — identified by his first name only as “Mr. Anthony” — reportedly collapsed and died after receiving updates that his three children remained in captivity.
The disclosure was made by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)’s Northern Region & FCT Chairman, John Hayab, who described the trauma and prolonged uncertainty surrounding the children’s fate as devastating for their families.
The tragedy comes at a time when some hope emerged — 50 of the abducted pupils managed to escape their captors over the weekend and have been reunited with families.
Still, as many as 253 pupils and 12 staff remain unaccounted for. CAN and school authorities continue to urge prayers and increased security efforts while awaiting the safe return of all captives.
