President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the release of 24 schoolgirls who were abducted from a boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State. The girls were kidnapped in the early hours of November 17, shortly after a military detachment reportedly left the school premises.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the president expressed relief that “all the 24 girls have been accounted for.” He commended the security agencies for their efforts and urged them to intensify operations to rescue others still in captivity.
Tinubu further directed that more security boots be deployed urgently to vulnerable areas to prevent future kidnappings. He promised full government support to security forces working to safeguard students and communities across affected states.
The Kebbi abduction is part of a disturbing surge in mass kidnappings in Nigeria: the same wave has seen other similar attacks — including an earlier raid on a school in Niger State — heightening fears over the safety of educational institutions.
