The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians about the circulation and sale of counterfeit Kiss condoms in markets across the country. The agency’s alert, captured in Public Alert No. 042/2025, comes after intelligence from DKT International Nigeria — the official marketing authorisation holder of Kiss condoms — revealed that fake versions of the product are being sold in major commercial hubs.
According to NAFDAC, counterfeit Kiss condoms have been found in prominent markets such as Onitsha Market in Anambra State, Idumota and Trade Fair markets in Lagos State, and reports also point to their presence in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, and Enugu. These phoney products reportedly do not meet the safety and quality standards required for reliable protection, putting users at risk of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
The agency emphasised that fake condoms can easily break or fail due to inferior materials and improper manufacturing. NAFDAC therefore urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing condoms — stressing that products should only be bought from reputable and licensed outlets. Distributors, retailers, and the public were encouraged to report any suspicious or counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office to aid regulatory action.
In closing, NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by continuing surveillance and enforcement activities to remove counterfeit condoms and other unsafe medical products from Nigerian markets.
