The Ogun State Government has officially confirmed that two foreign nationals lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in the Makun axis of Ogun State on Monday. The victims — both male — died instantly at the scene, and their remains have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu, according to a statement issued by the state government.
According to the government’s statement, Joshua and three other occupants were travelling from Lagos towards Sagamu when the sport utility vehicle they were in collided with a stationary truck along the highway. Joshua and the vehicle’s driver were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and promptly taken to a hospital, where they are receiving medical attention for their injuries.
The statement described the incident as deeply unfortunate and painful, especially with the loss of precious lives, and extended profound condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the deceased. It also urged motorists to exercise utmost caution and strict adherence to traffic regulations, particularly during the festive period when road travel is typically heavy.
Officials added that efforts are ongoing to clear the wreckage and tow the damaged truck to facilitate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, even as road safety agencies continue to monitor and enforce safety measures across the state’s highways.
