The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents to make environmental sanitation a daily habit rather than limiting it to the state’s monthly sanitation exercise. She stressed that consistent cleanliness is essential for preventing flooding, reducing disease outbreaks, and creating healthier communities across Lagos.
Speaking during the latest monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Eputu London, Ibeju-Lekki, she commended residents for their impressive participation, noting that many had begun cleaning their surroundings days before the official exercise. According to her, the growing enthusiasm reflects increasing public awareness of the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the need to involve children and young people in sanitation activities to instil lasting environmental responsibility in future generations. She encouraged residents to properly dispose of waste, keep drainage channels free of refuse, and work collectively to improve the state’s environmental outlook.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to sustaining the sanitation initiative while urging residents to cooperate with waste management authorities. Officials maintained that a cleaner environment requires shared responsibility between government and the public to ensure a safer and healthier Lagos for everyone.
