Gunmen have killed a female vigilante leader identified as Tawa and three others in separate attacks on Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incidents, which occurred within 24 hours, have thrown local communities into mourning.
In the first attack near Maikatako village, two male vigilante members were shot dead while another sustained injuries. A day later, tragedy struck again as Tawa was ambushed alongside another woman while returning from a mining camp in Butura Kampani village. Both women lost their lives, while the motorcycle rider they traveled with narrowly survived with injuries.The Butura Youth Movement (BYM) confirmed the killings, describing them as shocking and barbaric. BYM President, Sabastine Magit, condemned the renewed violence, alleging that Fulani militias were behind the attacks. He criticized security agencies for failing to act on prior intelligence that could have prevented the killings.
Magit urged authorities to immediately step up surveillance and security patrols in the area to forestall further bloodshed. He stressed that the rising wave of attacks is undermining local efforts to defend communities from banditry and terrorism.
