According to a statement from its Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the claim originated from a publication on Phonix.browser.com dated October 16 2025 and is entirely without foundation.
Dr. Benjamin clarified that the alleged declaration by the Dr. Mauruf Alausa, the Minister of Education, never took place. He explained that the referenced headline, “Renewed Hope in Action: Federal Government Streamlines Admission Requirements to Expand Access to Tertiary Education”, pertained solely to broad efforts by the federal government to enhance higher-education accessibility — not the removal of UTME as an admissions prerequisite.
The board urged the public to disregard the misleading article and reaffirmed that it remains the legally mandated body responsible for conducting the UTME for tertiary admissions in Nigeria.If
