The Osun Amotekun Corps says its commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, voluntarily responded to an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force at its headquarters in Abuja, and was not arrested, contrary to social-media reports.
According to the Corps’ Public Relations Office, Commander Omoyele had been medically recovering after sustaining injuries in an earlier attack. Once he was fit, he honoured the invitation to assist with the investigation into the incident in Akinlalu.
The statement emphasised that the invitation was part of the ongoing inquiry and that the commander has been fully cooperative since the process began. It further clarified that there was never any detention or arrest of the aide-to-the-state security outfit as alleged online.
The Akinlalu episode, which has drawn national attention, prompted a police investigative team led by the Kayode Egbetokun’s office to take charge of the matter.
The Corps urged the public to disregard unverified claims circulating on social platforms, stressing the importance of allowing due process and the rule of law to prevail.
