The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially affirmed that Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo holds a legitimate discharge certificate, as fresh allegations resurfaced casting doubts on his credentials. This confirmation spurred widespread reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with many Nigerians defending the minister against what they describe as politically driven attacks.
Social media users were quick to dismiss the renewed claims as baseless, reminding critics that the NYSC had earlier validated his participation in the national service and confirmed the authenticity of his certificate. One user wrote, “The NYSC that issued the certificate already spoke on this and confirmed that his certificate is authentic. Allow this Minister to continue his good work.” Another added, “It’s important that we don’t keep reopening settled matters just to distract from the real work being done.”
Supporters went further, praising Tunji-Ojo’s performance in office. Many pointed to his efforts to reform the Nigeria Immigration Service, reduce passport backlogs, and leverage technology in public service as evidence of his effectiveness. “Evidence of his performance is everywhere,” one user stated, insisting that the coat of good work he has shown should speak louder than repeated old claims.
Still, a handful of dissenting voices urged caution, calling for accountability and clean hands in public office. One commenter wrote, “He who must come to equity must come with clean hands,” signaling that scrutiny must apply to all officeholders, regardless of public standing.
