The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled October 29, 2025 for the hearing of a case lodged by the Nigeria Police Force against human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and other organizers of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration.
That nationwide protest aimed to pressure for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who currently faces charges relating to terrorism.
Authorities had earlier arrested Sowore and several others, accusing them of violating public peace and disregarding a court order during the protest.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed in Kuje Chief Magistrate’s Court, the defendants are charged with criminal conspiracy, incitement, and disturbance of public peace, allegedly under Sections 113, 114, and 152 of the Penal Code.
Police allege that participants in the demonstration sang war songs, obstructed traffic within the Federal Capital Territory, and obstructed the enforcement of law enforcement efforts while demanding Kanu’s immediate release.
When the case resumes on October 29, the court is expected to take pleas from all the defendants.
