President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The brief ceremony took place inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon.
During the swearing-in, President Tinubu charged the new INEC boss to uphold integrity, transparency, and professionalism in the conduct of future elections. He urged Prof. Amupitan to ensure that the commission remains independent and credible in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities to Nigerians.
Professor Amupitan’s appointment follows his confirmation by the Senate on October 16, after a rigorous screening process. A respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria and law professor, he is well known for his expertise in constitutional and electoral law.
His emergence marks the beginning of a new phase for Nigeria’s electoral body as the nation looks forward to improved and more credible elections under his leadership.
